Bomb It!

This doco is an impressive achievement. Director/producer Jon Reiss (Better Living Through Circuitry) travelled the world and interviewed a who's who of street artists (Shepard Fairey: younger, hotter and douchier than I'd thought), to illuminate a cultural world war. Graffiti artists call themselves bombers and see their work as 'typographic terrorism'.

Way back when everyone was smashing out SMS messages on Nokia 3310s it just wasn't the done thing to use vowels and punctuation. When messages started resembling Egyptian hieroglyphs, most got sick of the practice, but there are some still holding the flame, like the guys at (CNR). Others have done just the opposite, like those behind the Old Bakery on Eighth Gallery Café, who cram in nouns at every opportunity.

Revelation Perth International Film Festival

We've got a pal (let's call him Barnaby) whose life obsession is film. It's a 9 to 5 thing for this guy: he wakes up, showers, and is in the cinema before most of us have opened our first email. He generally emerges six films later, around 9pm, post-mixed up to his eyeballs. This year, we're joining Barnaby at Perth's best underground film festival.
