SixThousand is a weekly snapshot of Perth's subculture - a Perth guide to film, music, design, books, art, goods and links for people who realise that the best things in life are often hard to find. Below you will find the latest additions to our Perth guide.
While they've been busy reinventing themselves the last few years, Thee Oh Sees have really blossomed. It seems that once Dwyer nailed the coffin lid down on his noisy-garage-punk outfit The Coachwhips, a lot of what made them so special has found its way into the previously folk and psych -oriented OCS, or Ohsees, or Thee Oh Sees I guess it is these days.
Angry young men, angry old men, bitter assholes, condescending pricks... Dan Clowes paints in misanthropy the way ice sculptors chainsaw ice.
Best known for the film adaptations of Ghost World and Art School Confidential, Clowes' characters seem much sweeter, much sadder, and much more likable when drawn in his stark, tender, mannered style.
You know that American baby that got a black AmEx? Presumably his babysitter flashes it every time bubs needs some diapers plated in gold. I guess when your mum is a Brazilian model and your dad is a millionare mogul, that's just how you roll.
On my crappy journo salary, there isn't a snowball's chance in hell I'll ever even touch a black AmEx.
In the very same way that Lyndsay from Freaks and Geeks is supposed to be freaky and geeky but is actually just smoking hot and a fantasy object for countless straight men and lesbians, so too is it very cool to pretend you are uncool. Or (if irrefutably cool), to pretend you were *once* uncool.

SixThousand is a subcultural guide to Perth, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Perth writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence SixThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
