The Republic, cnr Shafto Lane and Wellington St, Perth

$5 on the door
Amble down Shafto Lane at Saturday's dawn and instead of the usual ‘lads' and desperate ‘ladettes' you're now greeted by a bunch of hipsters trying hard to look bored...but failing. Welcome to a revamped Sexy at The Republic. For one night only, the bar ditches collars for architectural coifs. It could be the haircuts, the booths, the stomping tunes, or the huge smoke-filled indie rave that give Sexy its Saturday charm - but it's most likely the owner performing glassy duties wearing a wifebeater and cowboy hat, and the Emu Export at $5 a can. - GD

SixThousand is a subcultural guide to Perth, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Perth writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence SixThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
