SHOP is your guide to boutique fashion and retail in Perth, featuring pop-up shops and other places that are so hard to find that Google doesn't even know about them yet. SHOP attempts to open your minds, hearts and wallets to the plethora of things that you can probably live without but in actuality don't want to. Clothes, jewellery, books, bikes, bags, shoes, bags that look like shoes - SHOP gives new meaning to the superficial - wait, we're confused.
These guys are onto something. The name alone is exactly what every self-respecting, latter-day consumer wants to be. Even if we have to make like pockfaced Ponzi-schemer Bernard Madoff, desert our tiny silvery scraps of soul at the crossroads and always finish the food on our plates‚ count us in.
When you get to walk into Last Chance Studio you may encounter one of two things a) you'll find the studios bustling with people admiring works on the wall or b) you'll find the Last Chance artists playing chess with dubstep in the background. But now if you venture deeper into the studios, up the stairs, and around the corner, you'll see the newly painted red walls of Peggy Sue's.
No birthday party is complete without punch and cake. Maybe I'm just unco, but when balancing punch in one hand and a piece of cake on a napkin in the other the result tends to be icing trodden into the carpet and nasty crotch stains. This week it's my birthday and there's no time for the drycleaners, so I've come to the conclusion that cupcakes might just be the answer.
So you've been to cities that never close down, from New York to Rome and Old London Town, but no matter how wide you roam, you still call Australia home? But where it really hurts is when you can't just pop down to Urban Outfitters for new 'learn a new language shower curtains' or desert boots or hipster books to decorate your coffee table.
While you are on the bus, while you are at work, while you are sleeping, Master Sancho is carefully fermenting his yeast. Sexy, huh? Gotta admire a yeast dedication like that. For Sancho, it's a family thing. His folks and grandfolks have been doing the cute French family bakery thing since 1904, but 2010 marks the first time they've done it in Perth, having opened Monday just gone.
I recently bought an iPhone, so just the other day I went to Fonezone to get a little rubber case for it. I was helped by a heavily made-up girl who smelled like grape Hubba Bubba and spray tan. She had a thick Westie accent and a diamonte glued to her tooth. While we were crouched down looking at the stuff on the lowest rack, she told me she really liked my shoes.
When looking over SixThousand's Google analytics a few shocking things stand out. Firstly, all of you freaks can't stop clicking on the keyboard cat link from 113 issues ago. Really, get over it. More importantly though, everyone in the world clicked on a link we once posted to Print Liberation - a tiny little Philadelphia based duo who's designs are pure genius.
