STRAY is about random adventure and escape. STRAY is about pretending that Perth is Ferris Bueller's Day Off and that fun and money aren't mutually exclusive. STRAY is cheap hijinx, cheap dates and the outings you could be planning while you're actually watching Video Hits on a weekend at 11am.
Even as you sit there next to your bar heater, reading SixThousand and eating processed cheese, science is doing its fair share to keep you alive. But what have you done for science lately? Sure, in Year 9 you did that experiment to see if Copper Sulphate crystals grew quicker than their Sodium Chloride counterparts but I don't exactly see your handiwork being published in Crystallographic Quarterly Review any time soon.
Why go to Mandurah? Because your animating principle is your soul. What is your soul? Your soul is your self. What does your self want? A journey, a ride. Because it ain't about how fast you get there and it ain't about what's waiting on the other side. It's the Climb; or in this case, the Line; the Mandurah Line.
Tolkein sure was an exclusive bastard. There were nine in his stupid fellowship, including a grumpy out-of-shape dwarf, yet no room for you? Well, now you can stick it to Frodo and his posse, because as it turns out, the real Middle Earth is in Swan View.
The Swan View Tunnel, out of town and up the hill in the John Forrest National Park, is pretty awesome.
Not many men can knit. We just aren't all that nimble when it comes to the click and clack required to construct warm woven knick-knacks. This puts us in a spot of bother during this cooler half of the year. Where quick-fingered lasses are able to knit themselves warm, wintry sheathes with which to protect themselves, we men become pale and pallid-faced, shivering uncontrollably for months on end.
In a small town like Perth, ‘What goes around comes around', as they say, right? The Rounds project consists of 9 artists handing work to each other in a round, for 4 rounds and now that Hatched has finished exhibiting its spring chicken graduate artists, the Rounds will be circling the spaces of PICA in June.
These days, rebellion is a difficult task. As a kid, all you had to do to freak the folks was make a cigarette out of file paper and bits of lawn. But now that you're a 20-something, you need to fry bigger fish to get people uppity. Stickin' gum under the benches of your bus stop just isn't gonna cut it anymore.
Catching the bus can be a daunting experience at the best of times. Not only do you have to get the right number, follow a timetable and have the correct change but now you're expected to carry a plastic people tracker while the driver's shield themselves behind an ominously thick pane of fibreglass.
